Assembly and Maintenance
Helpful Hints to Ensure a Better Biking Experience
1. Preventative Maintenance
Cover your bike to protect it from moisture, which can cause rusting. This is especially important in close proximity to the beach because of the large amount of salt in the air. Rust not only ruins the looks of the bike, it cause damage to important parts such as the chain, chain ring, and sprockets. When those parts rust, they are weakened, and therefore will not run as smoothly. Wipe sand and mud off the bike after rides. A little oil on the chain goes a long way. We don’t encourage riding the bikes in the rain or on sand, but you can if you must! Fenders prevent water and sand from spraying up on you.
2. Service
All new bikes should be kept on a regular maintenance schedule. The cruisers are very low-maintenance and should be tuned 1-2 months after purchase, then once or twice a year thereafter, depending on how often you ride. The commuters require a little more careful attention in brake and gear adjustments. For this, we recommend taking it to a local shop, or professional bike mechanic. Commuter tune-ups should be as frequent as, or more frequent than, cruisers.
3. Lock it up
Unfortunately, bike theft happens! U-Locks are the safest locks because they are the hardest to cut, and cannot be cut quickly. Lock the frame of your bike to a grounded object such as a bike rack, sign post, gate or the like. Wheels, seats, and accessories can be taken, too, so if you're leaving the bike for a long period of time, try to remove attractive accessories. Most importantly, don't lock your bike up by a wheel!
4. Be aware of your surroundings
There’s a lot of nice scenery by the beach. Kids, dogs, skateboards, and other bikers can make for interesting obstacles to avoid.
5. If it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it.
Assembly and repairs should be done by trained professionals. Consult our assembly directions and bike manuals when building or attempting repairs on the bikes.
6. Have fun!
